I removed the door tag to see if I could get the white paint off of it.
This actually turned out fairly nice!
I also took a few final pictures of the V8 that was in there.
The transmission came to work with me, and a fellow co-worker who has lots
of experience rebuilding these things helped me take it apart, and look for
problems. We didn't find any bad wear, so we got the standard rebuild kit
and put it back together. The only problem I can see now is that the filler
tube does not seem to fit very tight, and could cause a leak later.
The V8 wasn't worth playing with anymore. I did not indtend to change all
of the suspension / spindle parts to 5 lug versions, and I had two free
straight six engines to play with. So I yanked it out, and sold it!
We also removed the clutch bellcrank while we were at it, as it will no longer
be needed.
We got the new engine up onto the hoist, and began to check it out. It turns
out that the nicer engine is a 170 out of an old Ford Bronco. It had the
wrong oil pan, dipstick, and fuel pump on it for my Ranchero. Theses were
all replaced with new items, or spare parts from my 67 Mustan 200 part engine.
I also managed to find a spacer plate and flex plate for the automatic trans
application.
Things are moving along as fast as I can do them. We have a new baby now, so
I'm sure things will slow down for a while! :)
